Shoe Requirements by Class/Level

Beginners-Juniors (ages 3 thru 2nd grade) - When taking the beginners combo, beg. tap/jazz combo, or Jr. tap/jazz combo dancers are required to have black leather ballet slippers and black patent leather Mary Jane style tap shoes.

Junior through Adv. Ballet students should have pink split sole ballet slippers in canvas. KDS recomends the Bloch or Balera brands.

Junior and Intermediate Pom students should have the gore jazz boot in black. The black Capezio Free Form shoe is also acceptable.

Intermediate through Advanced Jazz students should have the black Bloch pulse jazz shoes. Capezio Free Form and Gore jazz boot is also acceptable.

Intermediate through Advanced Tap dancers need the gore style jazz tap in black. Oxford style taps are also acceptable.

Intermediate through Advanced Hip Hop students need the black Capezio Free Form dance shoe or a black gore boot. Most often we will use sneakers for performances.

Teen & Advanced Classical Ballet students need not purchase pointe shoes until the teacher says they are ready. At that time the shoe should be fit by an expert and selected based on the dancers foot. Just be sure shoes are European pink.

Teen & Advanced Lyrical dancers should have the tan or nude colored demi ballet shoe or turner.

Tumbling students should attend class wearing unitards with fitted, full coverage bottoms and have bare feet!

Dress Code for KDS dancers

*All classical ballet students ages 6 through 18 are required to wear a leotard and tights to class. Skirts, shorts, or leggings over the leotards are allowed. Pointe shoes may not be worn in class without tights for fit, safety, and health reasons.

*All jazz, tap, lyrical, hip hop, and poms dancers are required to attend classes in dance or athletic wear. This means clothes that are designed for activity. These are not typical school clothes. Absolutely no denim. Also no long or baggy pants or T-shirts will be allowed. Dancers should wear leotards or fitted sports tops (not meaning a mid driff). Dancers should wear shorts, fitted capris, leggings or skirts. We will be stretching in various positions, be sure your clothing choices offer the needed coverage. In colder months dancers may layer with long sleeve T's or hoodies but after warm ups dancers will be asked to remove these items.

* Please refrain from wearing large or loose jewelry to class as well as other accessories such as gloves, hats, scarves, etc. Dancers will be asked to remove these items.

* For a first dress code violation dancers will receive a verbal reminder, on the second violation a dancer will receive a card to be signed by a parent. If there is a third violation, a dancer may be asked to sit out of class. We of course understand if a child is coming from another activity and is wearing a sports uniform, etc. If they have time to change they can but if not just let your instructor know the circumstances.
